Diaries of Charles Kelly

What was it like to be a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War? What did soldiers eat? What did they wear? What weapons did they use? How did they get for example, from Fredericksburg to Gettysburg? Why did so many men die fighting over sleepy little towns throughout Virginia and Pennsylvania?

I worked with author Don Owen on a line-by-line proofread of his debut nonfiction book, which offers a compelling perspective on the American Civil War through the lens of one soldier’s diary entries. For this project, I provided manuscript feedback on sentence clarity and grammatical corrections, along with fact-checking historical details throughout.
